If everybody visiting our site contributed one donor SMS a month, two more children’s orchestras would be playing in the Czech Republic changing the life of their members for the better.

Our Orchestra in the Rudolfinum on November 17, 2015

Concert Marking the Students Day, also featuring Harmonie Foundation Orchestra, will be held in Prague’s Rudolfinum at 7:30 p.m. on November 17, 2015.

Other orchestras performing at the event will be: the Youth Summer Orchestra, the Trmi©kus Orchestra and students´ ensembles from all over the Czech Republic.

At this year’s Concert Marking the Students´ Day we would like to introduce you to active young people (including children) who devote themselves to music, but not in what can be called the mainstream music education system and with the support of established institutions providing music education. As a result, we will also hear – playing side by side (and at the end of the concert together) – the Youth Summer Orchestra, an ensemble built on students´ interest, enthusiasm and passion for music. These young musicians meet each summer to play compositions by Schubert, Smetana, Dvořák or Martinů. Also participating will be the Trmi©kus Orchestra (and its soloists), which is based at the Trmice elementary school, noted for its commitment to the ideal of inclusive education (it is a school nominated for this year’s Roma Spirit Award 2015 in recognition of its activities in this field); and the third participant is the Harmonie Foundation Orchestra, an ensemble that brings to the Czech Republic the ideas of the Venezuelan El Sistema project and which shares the project’s conviction that it is possible to change children’s lives through music – the project helps children without any differences to attend courses in playing a musical instrument, while building an orchestra and becoming an indispensable part of a community where everyone has his or her own place. Children from a children’s home in Klánovice as well as kids whose parents came to live in this country, for instance, from Nigeria, Cuba, Ukraine or Vietnam, perform in the orchestras organized by the Harmonie Foundation.

The concert is moderated by Tomáš Černý.

It is broadcast live by the Czech Radio Vltava.
